Say goodbye to stickers on your laptop lid thanks to the new gimmick of the Zephyrus G14!

CES 2020 is well underway and now we get to see each brand’s newest offerings in the flesh. This start of the year, ROG brings a new member to their Zephyrus G line — the Zephyrus G14. This one comes with quite a unique gimmick.

While the Zephyrus line is iconic in its keyboard design, it’s G-series variants takes a more traditional approach. That carries over to the Zephyrus G14, even the signature slash lid design. However, what ROG added to the display lid is a literal customizable display dubbed the AniMe Matrix, comprised of 1,215 embedded mini LEDs. This allows users to project their own logos and whatnot to the display lid. Adding another layer of customizability and slightly removing the need of slapping stickers for aesthetics. Not only can you import your custom images, the AniMe Matrix also supports reacting to music and other audio cues.

As for the rest of the specs, we’re getting a 14″ panel that can either be in Full HD or WQHD. Refresh rates for the Full HD version can go up to 120Hz while the WQHD one is capped at 60Hz. Powering the thin & light is AMD’s 4th Generation Ryzen mobile CPUs, up to a variant of the star of the show the Ryzen 7 4800HS, a more power-efficient version. On the GPU-side of things, we’re treated with up to an Nvidia RTX 2060. RAM and Storage can be maxed out at 32GB and a 1TB SSD, respectively. ROG is even adding Windows Hello support thanks to a conveniently embedded fingerprint scanner in the power button.

Ports are slightly limited due to the form factor but we still get an almost complete selection. We’re getting a USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C (with support for DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery), one USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C, two USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A, an HDMI 2.0b, and one 3.5mm combo audio port. Lastly, we have Dolby Atmos handling the audio department. The Zephyrus G14 is expected to enter the market this Q1 2020, prices are yet to be announced.
