Love is in the air and Nintendo is feeling it with an explosive February 2022 Nintendo Direct!

Nintendo is up and running this love month with some big announcements coming to their widely successful handheld Switch. We have some new game announcements, ports, gameplay reveals, expansions, and sequels. So, if you don’t have the time to sit through the entire video here are the juicy tidbits from the February 2022 Nintendo Direct.

New Game Announcements

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes

The next installment in the Fire Emblem Warriors franchise features the characters from the widely successful Three Houses main entry. As this is a “musou” style game, we’re back to non-stop hack and slash action. Get to control your favorite heroes from the Three Houses more actively as you cut through hordes of enemies. Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is now available for pre-order with a price tag of $59.99 (~Php 3,000). Those who also purchase the digital version will receive Owl Feathers regularly used to boost support levels with characters.

Disney Speedstorm

Disney and Pixar meet Mario Kart with a new high octane combat racing game dubbed Disney Speedstorm. The game will feature known television characters such as Captain Jack Sparrow, Mulan, Mickey Mouse, Sulley, the Beast, and many more. Each racer can be upgraded to increase its stats and make its unique skills more impactful. The game will be free-to-play, will feature 8-player multiplayer, and is coming out sometime this Summer 2022.

Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival

Get your drum up as the latest Taiko no Tatsujin heads for the Nintendo Switch in the form of Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival. The game will include beats from titles such as The Legend of Zelda, “Gurenge,” “Feel Special” and “Racing into the Night. Face off against other drummers in the new Great Drum Toy War mode or put on a show with friends in DON-chan Band. Players will also be able to unlock 500 songs with a paid in-game subscription service. Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival releases sometime this 2022.

SD Gundam Battle Alliance

Enter the world of chibi-style Mobile Suits in SD Gundam Battle Alliance from Bandai Namco. The game gives players control of 3-unit squadrons in cooperative battles and missions. It will feature Mobile Suits from the original Gundam to Iron-Blooded Orphans and more. SD Gundam Battle Alliance launches sometime this 2022 for multiple platforms including the Nintendo Switch.

Sequels

Nintendo Switch Sports

Wii Sports is sort off getting a sequel on the switch with Nintendo Switch Sports. The game seeks to revive the good ol’ days of Wii with some traditional sports titles such as Soccer, Volleyball, Bowling, Tennis, and more. Much like with the Wii Remote, use your JoyCon to swing, bat, kick, and even receive. Play with friends locally or enter leagues online for some points for in-game rewards. Nintendo Switch Sports will be available on April 29th. You can pre-order the game now or enter the playtesting happening soon over here.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3

The third installment in the famous Xenoblade Chronicles franchise is finally coming. Dubbed Xenoblade Chronicles 3, the game takes players well into the future of the first and second games. Meaning, while this is a sequel it’s not a direct continuation of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Though you can still expect some familiar and recognizable elements in the game. The game will launch sometime in September 2022, so fans won’t be waiting too long for it. For those interested, you can also view an official statement from Executive Director Tetsuya Takahashi.

Mario Strikers: Battle League

Mario yet again enters a new form of sports in Mario Strikers Battle League. The game adopts Soccer-like mechanics but with virtually no rules as you have a variety of skills at your disposal. Enter a 5-on-5 rumble with your favorite Mario characters such as Peach, Toad, and Yoshi. You can also customize these characters with gear that can augment their stats and appearance. The game will support 8-player wireless play. Mario Strikers: Battle League is now available for pre-order for $59.99 (~Php 3,000) and is releasing June 10th.

Remasters & Remakes

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition

Relive the glory days of RPGs with a remaster of Chrono Cross for the Nintendo Switch. This version also includes Radical Dreamers, the text-based visual novel telling a side-story of Chrono Trigger. As for the remastered Chrono Cross, you can expect a revamp in overall visuals including the 3D Models and character illustrations. as well as higher-quality background music. We also have a slew of new additions which you can find here. Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition releases April 7th and is now available for pre-order with a price tag of $19.99 (~Php 1,000).

Front Mission 1st: Remake

The first Front Mission is getting a full remake for the Nintendo Switch dubbed Front Mission 1st: Remake. Get to pilot weaponized machines known as Wanzers in this classic tactical RPG. The remake features a modern mode with improved controls and HD graphics. The sequel will also be released on the Witch aptly named Front Mission 2: Remake in the near future. Front Mission 1st: Remake releases sometime this Summer 2022.

Expansions, Passes, and DLC

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is getting some brand new content with the new Booster Course Pass. This one includes 48 remastered courses from across the Mario Kart Universe. However, you won’t be getting them in one go as this works much like a season pass. Eight new courses will be released at a time over six courses until the end of 2023. The pass alone is available for $24.99 (~Php 1,250) but is also included in a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. The Booster Course Pass will be available come March 18th, pre-orders begin today though.

Gameplay Reveals and New Trailers

MLB The Show 22

The 17th entry into the MLB The Show franchise is also the first one to make it into the Nintendo Switch. The online card collecting game based on Major League Baseball will feature fan-favorite modes of the series. These include the RPG mode Road to the Show and Diamond Dynasty. MLB The Show 22 will also include cross-platform play and progression. So, players need not worry if they pick the title up on different platforms. The game supports up to a maximum of 8-players. It will release on April 5th and is now available for pre-order with a price tag of $59.99 (~Php 3,000). Those who purchase the digital edition on the Switch will receive the full game as well as 5k stubs, the in-game currency.

Splatoon 3

We get more footage of Splatoon 3, the next installment in the colorful and quirky shooting game franchise. The trailer features the next wave of the Salmon Run co-op mode, showcasing new upcoming features. Splatoon 3 launches on the Nintendo Switch this summer with no pricing as of yet.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land

We get to see more of our cute pink swallowing friend as a new trailer of Kirby and the Forgotten Land surfaces. This trailer features the Mouthful Mode further showcasing Kirbs swallowing prowess. However, not only does Kirby absorb these objects but can now also transform into them. Kirby and the Forgotten Land launches March 25th, you can pre-order it now with a price tag of $59.99 (~Php 3,000).

Ports

The amount of ports announced for the Switch in this Direct was quite a few. So, to keep this article short we’ll just breeze through with a quick list.
