Ragnarok is Coming!
After the 2018 boy hit err- smash hit! We now get our first look of the next installment of the Norse Saga of the God of War series. Join Kratos and a now grown-up(kinda) Atreus as they embark on a new Journey across the Norse realms.
We got our first look into some of the new characters that we will encounter in this journey:
Thor

We all know the Norse God of Thunder Thor. However, he looks “bigger” than most are familiar with (due to a certain superhero franchise). But fear not! this depiction of Thor is more accurate to Norse mythology, contrary to popular belief, Thor is known as a glutton and a drunkard (like most Vikings). That’s why he looks the way he is. He is also known as a ruthless God, which seems to be how he is portrayed in the God of War universe. Sorry, no lovable Chris Hemsworth here.
Tyr

Tyr is known as the Norse God of War. Mythology states that he lost his hand after he was bitten by the Great Wolf Fenrir, due to the betrayal of a certain Allfather (The Aesir were not good gods at all, what do you expect from a civilization of ruthless warriors?). In God of War, multiple statues of Tyr are shown without his hand, which doesn’t seem to be the case here, so we will have to see. All we know is, the Greek God of War and the Norse God of War will be teaming up in a game about Ragnarok….. big hmm!
Fun Fact: The tattoos on Tyr’s left arm seem to be Egyptian hieroglyphs. Add that to the fact that Tyr’s vault has egyptian artifacts in the 1st game…..where are you going with this Santa Monica?
Angrboda

If you played the first game
*SPOILER WARNING!*
Okay you have been warned. We learn that Atreus is actually Loki, and his mother Faye is actually the Jotunn Laufey. What many don’t know, is that Angrboda, another Jotunn, is actually Loki’s lover in Norse Mythology. She and Loki had 3 children: the World Serpent Jormungandr, the Great Wolf Fenrir, and the ruler of the dead Hela (No, she is not Odin’s daughter, stop following some superhero stories). These 3 have significant roles in Ragnarok, so we’ll have to see how it plays out.
Who knows what other prominent Norse figures we will meet in this game? We look forward for more in Sony Santa Monica’s depiction of the great Ragnarok calamity. Stay tuned as we cover more tidbits as we get closer to launch!
