What was once the Free-to-Play Torchlight Frontiers is now Torchlight III!

It has finally arrived, the long-awaited sequel of Torchlight II, Torchlight III. However, it’s not a completely new title as it should’ve been the previously announced Torchlight Frontiers. The game is pegged for a summer release on Steam.

Due to its similarities with the previous main titles as well as feedback from Alpha Testers, Echtra Games decided that Frontiers was shaping up to be a true sequel. Hence, the transformation of Frontiers into Torchlight III. As the successor of the Torchlight franchise, the third title now returns to its roots by offering the same linear world structure of the previous games. Likewise, we’re back to the classic “choose your class and pet” system. A new feature to be introduced to the game are account-based forts.

Think of it as a customizable home for your character, where you’ll be able to build monuments of power, pet stables, and the like. The game is getting entirely new classes — the Dusk Mage, Forged, and Railmaster, plus a yet to be revealed fourth class. It will be released first on PC via Steam, with consoles to follow shortly after. Unlike the planned free-to-play model with Frontiers, III will be a buy-to-play game. Closed Alpha testing for the game will begin on January 29th.
