Cool Mini or Not’s tabletop adaptation of Bloodborne!
Back in February, Cool Mini or Not teased the upcoming Kickstarter campaign of their next Bloodborne project — Bloodborne: The Board Game. Today, it finally starts its campaign, lasting a good 21 days. What’s even more surprising is that, as of writing, it already has about 9.5k backers and has amassed $850,000 (~Php 44,310,500). Other than that, the game was fully funded within 17 minutes, talk about crazy numbers in just the first few hours!
Update: Apologies, seems we placed the wrong link at the end of the article. You will now be properly redirected to the campaign page.
Bloodborne: The Board Game tasks 1 to 4 players to explore the town of Yharnam fighting monsters along the way. The game is actually based on Bloodborne, the award-winning video game from Sony released back in 2015 for the PlayStation 4. We’re seeing traditional dungeon crawl mechanics here, where players uncover the map by exploring tile per tile (procedurally generated).
We’re also getting a diceless combat system, replaced by a more card-oriented format. Players will be able to upgrade their character’s stats (Strength, Skill, Endurance, and Vitality) throughout the game. For now, we have 4 campaigns each with three different chapters.
Perhaps the biggest reason why the game is receiving this kind of hype and support is because of the designers. First, we have Eric M. Lang, better known for designing some of the best board games out on the market such as Bloodrage and Rising Sun. Then there’s Michael Shinall, best known for designing Rum & Bones.
There are only two pledge levels for the game, with the first being an early bird offer. The Blood Moon early bird pledge, priced at $90 (~Php 4,683), includes the base game, an exclusive Kirkhammer Hunter, and all applicable stretch goals. The basic Blood Moon pledge is priced at $100 (~Php 5,204), which has the same inclusions as the early bird one. The early bird pledge will end in about 19 hours. Estimated delivery is on May 2020, check out the campaign here.
