There’s a catch though…

Twitch Prime announced a few hours ago that their members can now redeem a free 12-month Nintendo Switch Online sub. The catch though, is that it’s split into two claim cycles.

Twitch Prime subscribers can redeem the first 3-months of the Nintendo Switch Online sub right off the bat. After that, they’ll have to wait a good 60-days (2 months) of being a Prime member after their first claim to get the remaining 9-months.

A Nintendo Switch Online subscription allows Switch users to access the online features of the console, such as co-op and multiplayer, as well as gain access to a library of classic free NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) games.

A Twitch Prime membership, on the other hand, gives access to the following benefits:

  • Twitch Channel Subscription – Receive a Twitch channel subscription every month to use on Partner / Affiliate channels. This includes access to the exclusive channel-specific Subscriber perks that come with a regular subscription such as chat privileges, emoticons, badges, and more. Prime Video members receive access to the free Twitch channel subscription once their paid membership to Prime Video begins.
  • Member Access to Game Content – Get access to select games and in-game loot at no additional cost. You can find offers at twitch.tv/prime.
    • Exclusive Emoticons – Access to emoticons such as KappaHD, ScaredyCat, and others, reserved only for Twitch Prime and Turbo members.
  • Expanded Chat Color Options – Set a chat color by toggling a set of 3 sliders (RGB). These options can be changed at any time by going to the Prime Settings.
  • Member-Only Prime Chat Badge – A unique chat badge which can also be toggled on and off via Settings.
  • Extended Broadcast Storage – Save past broadcasts on Twitch for 60 days instead of the standard 14.
