Pokemon Go meets Harry Potter!
Our folks over at Niantic, the developers of the global sensation Pokemon Go, is finally finishing up on their next AR (Augmented Reality) game — Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. The game will have similar elements to its Pokemon counterpart, except we’re now entering the world of magic and muggles.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will have as traverse the world as a new recruit of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force. Basically, the wizarding world has gone into chaos and magic (including mystical creatures, artifacts, and even memories) has seeped through to the other side, or the muggle-world. Replacing our cutesy, fierce, adorable, and mighty pocket monsters are “Foundables” — A combination of magical people, creatures, artefacts, and memories.
Much like in Pokemon Go where we catch Pokemon, we are tasked in capturing these “Foundables” and returning them back to the wizarding world. This time around, we’re not throwing any pokeballs, instead, we’ll be weaving and casting spells using Spell Energy. Replacing our ever so reliable Pokestops are Inns, which drop various items to replenish said energy.
A rather unique added feature here is “Portkeys”, which opens a portal to iconic Harry Potter locations that you can explore in full 360-degrees AR. Replacing Gyms are Fortresses, where players can participate in real-time multiplayer battles against Death Eaters, Dementors, and the like.
To top it all off, we are also given a choice to master magical professions, which we are guessing is replacing the type system in Pokemon Go. In any case, the game is now up for pre-registration on Google Play and via the official website. Sadly, iOS users will have to wait a bit longer. The official release date too, is yet to be announced.
