It’s a prequel to the well-received Switch RPG!
Square Enix just announced the next entry into the Octopath Traveler franchise, entitled Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent. This time around the game will be on the mobile platform and will serve as a prequel to the original.
Octopath Traveler was one of, if not the, first RPGs Square Enix developed for Nintendo’s famed hybrid. It introduced us to a different kind of system, where we get to use characters that have unique abilities outside of combat as well as branching storylines. Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent is pegged to be a single player experience, much like its Switch cousin (yes folks, it ain’t a Gacha or an MMO!).
The HD-2D graphical design is also making a return along with what looks like a new combat system allowing you to have eight characters in your party. Other than that not much info was revealed, except that it’s now up for pre-registration and a beta will commence on March 12th (in Japan only, sorry guys). Here’s to hoping it arrives on western shores.
